Plantation police say stolen tablet was thrown into canal

Source report: October 24, 2026 · Adapted October 26, 2026

An investigation into a reported tablet theft at a Plantation coffee shop ended with the device being thrown into a canal, according to police.

Officers responded on October 15 after a Starbucks patron reported that another woman had taken a tablet. Police later released body-camera footage showing officers approaching the woman and asking her to put down a bag.

The department alleges she grabbed the tablet while officers were with her and tossed it into the water. Police identified the woman as 47-year-old Arletha Brooks and reported charges of petit theft and resisting officers.

The October 24 account also reported two outstanding warrants described as no lodging on city property. Brooks was taken to the Broward County jail. The source coverage did not establish a later court outcome.

The allegations remain unproven unless established in court. An arrest is not a conviction.
